The topic of this paper derives from national basic program of China:"Safety evaluation and design theory of high water pressure shield tunnel". Based on the background of Qiongzhou strait shield tunnel this work suggests a beam-spring model with the effects of the joint stiffness, Young's modulus of the segment, ground resistance coefficient, lateral earth pressure factor, water depth and buried depth are characterized in form of interval variables. By using Finite Element Method (FEM) and the Transformation Method(TM), the uncertain response of displacement, axial force, shear force and bending moment and degrees of uncertain parameters are estimated. In interval analysis, the uncertain parameter is denoted by a simple range which would be more practical at preliminary design stage when prior knowledge or assumption of the uncertainty distribution is hard to get.The result of this research can provide a more comprehensive understanding of segmental lining's most unfavorable safety condition and dominant factor of safety which could be a reference for robust and optimize design.
