With the development of society and technology, the smart home systems become more perfect, which provides a comfortable and convenient life for the people. In the smart home system, the communication module is the foundation of the whole system. Among a variety of short-range communication technology, ZigBee technology becomes one of the most appropriate communication technologies in smart home systems with its excellent performance. This thesis completes ZigBee module which is used for communication between the various devices.Firstly, this thesis elaborates the background and significance of the research and introduces the research and development status of ZigBee technology at home and abroad, which leads to the importance of the design of communication module to the whole system. After introducing the ZigBee module, the thesis supplies the design requirements of ZigBee module starting from the functional requirements and performance parameters. By comparing the various possible solutions, the SoC implementation is selected and the overall structure of ZigBee module is given.Secondly, the thesis compares various SoC implementations and selects the solution with CC2530 as the core. The thesis completes the ZigBee module hardware circuit design. The circuit is divided into RF circuit and peripheral circuit. The RF circuit needs to consider the balun circuit, matching of impedance and design of transmission line. The peripheral circuit contains crystal oscillator circuit and power decoupling filter circuit. Based on the complete circuit, the thesis introduces the antijamming design and reliability of PCB board.Thirdly, the thesis analyzes and designs the antenna of ZigBee module. After introducing the basic characteristics of antenna, the thesis comes up with special requirement of antenna based on the communication mechanism and depolarization characteristics of indoor electromagnetic wave. According to this requirement, the thesis selects the inverted F antenna and completes the design. In order to improve the gain of antenna, the thesis improves the inverted F antenna.Fourthly, the thesis analyzes the software design of the application of ZigBee module in smart home system. It mainly contains the work flow of the coordinator node, routing node and terminal node. On this basis, the thesis analyzes the low power design of ZigBee module for the application in energy limited scene.Lastly, the thesis tests the ZigBee module. It contains the test of antenna of module, performance of communication and power consumption. The test results show that the ZigBee module is suitable for smart home system.
