Coal is the dominant resources in our country's energy consumption, and this “mainly depending on coal” phenomenon will not change in a short period of time. Coal is widely used in thermal power, metallurgy and other industries, it can provide theoretical basis for guiding the practice to study the combustion character and structure change of coal char. At present, the char which is used to study the combustion character is usually obtained directly by the pulverized coal, it is difficult to rule out the interference of alkali metal and complex structure. So, this experiment tries to select a method for preparing high purity synthetic char, then the various single factor effects on the synthetic char combustion character can be studied.Firstly, selecting a method of making synthetic char by pyrolysising organic solvent. Char sample is prepared in a horizontal tube furnace with furfural alcohol and pore-forming agent as raw material, nitrogen as atmosphere. The amount of pore-forming agent should be changed to obtain synthetic char sample with different pore structure. Then solid particles in certain particle size can be obtained by crushing, grinding, screening.Secondly, the synthetic char sample should be tested by a series of physical and chemical testing. Using SEM and BET to characterize the surface microstructure and the pore structure of the synthetic char sample. Using FT-IR to characterize chemical functional group structure of the synthetic char samples. Then, the combustion characteristics of synthetic char were studied by thermogravimetric analysis. The impact of oxygen concentration, heating rate, as well as physical pore structure on synthetic char combustion were studied. Finally, the evolution of surface functional groups of synthetic char in low temperature combustion were studied. The synthetic char samples were heated to different temperatures by thermogravimetric analysis, then immediately switching to the inert atmosphere and collecting samples, the evolution of surface functional groups of synthetic char can be studied.
