With the development of technology and economy, the requirement for power quality is becoming higher. As an important device to improve the power factor and stabilize voltage,reactive power compensation device is one of the important measures to improve the power quality. With the development of modern power electronics technology, the reactive power compensation device such as thyristor switched capacitor(TSC) or thyristor switched reactor(TSR) has been widely developed. Compared with the higher voltage withstood by thyristor when the thyristor controlled dynamic reactive power compensation is off state, the biggest characteristic of TCC reactive power compensation device is low thyristor voltage, so the TCC reactive power compensation device has a higher price performance compared with other dynamic reactive power compensation device,therefore, we chosen the TCC reactive power compensation device as the research object in this paper.First of all, this paper made a deep study on the working principle and characteristics of TCC device, and modeled the TCC reactive power compensation device in simulink environment, then analyzed the steady state characteristics and transient characteristics of TCC device. On the basis, this paper build the TCC reactive power compensation device modelin the RTDS real-time digital simulation system, proposed a control method which use the particle swarm algorithm to optimize the PID parameters, so combining the advantages of these two algorithms, make TCC device to get a better compensation effect.In order to realize the controller can quickly and accurately detect the compensation signal,this paper also introduces and compares the common methods of detection signal such as Fourier analysis method and instantaneous reactive power theory. After analyzing the TCC device and algorithm by MATLAB, then use the TCC reactive power compensation device built the RTDS real-time digital simulation system and the controller constituted by computer hardware system to combineto a semi-physical simulation platform. The experimental results show that the TCC reactive power compensation device has a good performance on steady state characteristics and transient characteristics in the realization of reactive power compensation.
