The production capacity and retention of cars have been skyrocketing these years with the development of car industry, especially SUV. Meanwhile the increasing requirement of energy consumption and emission turns out to be the major obstacle to the prosperity of SUV which are blamed to be gas guzzler and mobile chimney.Transmission is one of the most critical systems which contribute decisively to start, acceleration, smooth driving and adaptability to various road conditions. Among them the CVT, or continuously variable transmission, is praised and honored for its smooth acceleration, less driver operation and engine efficiency but criticized for its transmission power loss and limited power capacity.Hybrid electric vehicle is getting more and more attention these years for its peak load shaving – an additional electric motor as supplementary input to the shaft to avoid the engine from operating at low speed and high torque which brings high fuel consumption and emission. A smaller engine can then be applied without sacrificing the performance of the car.Based on a hybrid SUV, the conventional CVT is modified with a power split mechanism to reduce the power flow to the CVT so as to avoid its power limit, meanwhile to increase the efficiency. By force analysis, power analysis, equation calculations under multiple proposed scenarios and the design of control system followed by virtual emulation in software, the best combination of the parameters are concluded therefore decreases fuel consumption and emission premised on maintaining of the target of performance.
