Recently, since the traditional fossil energy has been consumed, the exploitation and utilization of renewable energy has become an urgent demand of the social development. As a new type of clean and renewable energy, using ocean energy for generation may reduce large pollution to the environment. This project mainly focuses on magnetic gear (MG) which can be used in marine energy generation, this is a new type of gear drive device depends on magnetic coupling to transmit torque(or force) and rotational speed (or linear speed), this paper will use two methods of theoretical analysis and simulation to design and optimize the magnetic gear.Firstly, the basic principle of the MG is elaborated by analytical method, according to the relative motion between three different components, there are four modes of the MG operation with different ratio; then introduce the two-dimensional finite element method in MG, on the platform of ANSOFT MAXWELL, MG model is established and its subdivision is acquired.Secondly, by comparing the two structures of with and without modulator ring, using Fourier method to analyze the magnetic field distribution of the inside and outside airgap, special work is done to the modulator ring to stand out its function in MG, then the static torque characteristic is analyzed by the two methods of the static field computations and the transient field computations.Thirdly, making analogy to the rotating MG and setting up the model of linear MQ then in order to achieve the maximum thrust force and reduce the loss, make optimization to the structural parameters, such as the thickness of permanent magnet, armature and airgap, the height and thickness of the ferromagnetic pole-pieces and so on.Finally, providing the completed design scheme of the linear MG, and making analysis to its related characteristics, pointing out the shortage of this paper and the further research direction.
