Traffic signal controller which directly affects the efficiency of transport system plays an important role in transport system. Traffic signal control simulation models the traffic conditions. It evaluates the existing traffic service, and the options of further improvement approaches, which provides references for practical application. Therefore, the establishment of effective traffic control simulation platform is a prerequisite for traffic signal control study. This thesis designed and implemented traffic simulation software based on VISSIM. On the basis of the traffic simulation software, this thesis studied single intersection traffic and arterial traffic signal control algorithm, and implemented the effective control strategy. The main contents are summarized as below:(1) The design and implementation of traffic simulation software based on VISSIM. VISSIM is a microscopic traffic simulation. It can provide accurate traffic simulation and rigorous evaluation calculation method. But, it can't provide complex intelligent traffic signal control method. So, this thesis implemented traffic simulation software based on VISSIM COM interface. The traffic simulation software can provide microscopic simulation and unbiased evaluation features, also it can load the complex traffic signal control algorithm;(2) Research of single intersection traffic signal control algorithm. This thesis presented a fuzzy genetic fuzzy logic control (FGFLC) model for multi-phase signal control at isolated intersection. Aiming at the problems of fuzzy controller parameter empirical settings and functional disability of learning, genetic algorithm (GA) for selecting the logic rules and fine-tuning the parameters of the membership functions is proposed. Moreover, considering that premature convergence is a common problem in finding the optimal solution in GA, in this thesis, a fuzzy genetic algorithm (FGA) is proposed for solving this problem. Finally, the performance of the FGFLC model is validated via VISSIM-based simulation platform. Experimental results show that the performance of the proposed traffic controller is better;(3) Research of arterial traffic signal control algorithm. Considering the correlation between adjacent intersections in the arterial traffic, this thesis presented arterial traffic signal fuzzy coordinated secondary control. In the first level control, the traffic controller presents coordinated control between the intersections. In the second level control, the traffic controller presents the fuzzy control for each single intersection. Moreover, considering the fuzzy parameters of single intersection is uncertain in the arterial control problems, the thesis adopts interval type-2 fuzzy logic control(IT2FLC) instead of the traditional fuzzy control, and optimized the uncertainty factors of IT2FLC using genetic algorithm. Finally, the arterial traffic signal control algorithm is validated via VISSIM-based simulation platform. Experimental results show that the performance of the proposed traffic controller is better.
