Large power grid development and interconnection could bring great benefits to people, but also bear a lot of potential danger. So it is urgent to evaluate the adequacy of power power grid. At present, the focus of reliability management has been gradually transferred from the equipment and components layer to the overall power system. And the adequacy evaluation of actual power grid mainly adopts the deterministic method with the limitation of calculation method and tools, the evaluation results tend to have larger deviation. Therefore, it needs a practical power system adequacy assessment method to improve the existing models and methods.Under this background, this paper first introduced the loop concept, outage model and reliability parameters. Then used the loop as input unit to assess the adequacy of the power system. It could greatly reduce the number of assessment state and improve evaluation efficiency. Paper aiming at some problems exist in the process of evaluating the adequacy of system, emphatically analyzed how to get the operating mode, and used the critical fault collection to reduce the number of evaluation states, realizing the practical of evaluation method. On the further research, proposed the loop contribution indices to quantify the contribution of each loop to power system adequacy. Established the system-loops-node hierarchical index system, which can describe large power grid system in multi-level and multi-perspectives. And put forawad a new method to identify the weak points of bulk power system by using the loop contribution indices and the Birnbaum importance method,avoided the complex sensitivity calculation. Meanwhile, the paper combined the loop contribution indices with loop health state to get the maintenance order factor, which formed collection of repair loops. According to the component state of the collection to determine the specific maintenance components. Then employed the minimum risk variance each period as the objective function, obtained the optimal system maintenance plan. It would improve the adequacy level of maintenance system respectively from the maintenance equipment selection and maintenance plan two aspects. The actual assessment of province power grid indicated the effectiveness of all of the above the proposed method.
