Axial-field permanent magnet coreless DC machine(AFPMCDCM) and transverse-flux permanent magnet machine(TFPMM) are two representative types of novel permanent machines. AFPMCDCM with a small size in axial, low moment of inertia is especially suitable for occasions that need to start or brake frequently. TFPMM has high torque density, which makes it suitable for the low speed operation. Therefore, both of them have a broad development prospects. Novel electromagnetic clutch is used to establish a flexible form between hub and motor. Though its structure is simple, the design method is similar to the novel permanent machines. Taking the above three as research objects, the design method of novel permanent machines is summarized in this paper from three aspects: magnetic field analysis, production process and structure design. The main contents are as follows:1. Magnetic field analysis. Finite element method and analytical method are used to calculate the magnetic field of AFPMCDCM and electromagnetic clutch. The results include the distribution of no-load magnetic field, air gap flux density and flux leakage coefficient. Then, the characteristics of two methods are analyzed and summarized.2. The combination of electromagnetic design and fabrication technology. The design method and molding process of coreless winding, as well as the optimal process of TFPMM are studied in depth.3. Research of structure design method. Firstly, the structure optimization criteria of AFPMCDCM and electromagnetic clutch are established by using orthogonal design method. Secondly, the mathematical model of AFPMCDCM is proposed and making optimized design by genetic algorithms. Finally, the characteristics of orthogonal design method and genetic algorithms are discussed.4. Computer aid design program. Based on the previous research contents, a software used for AFPMCDCM aid design is programmed by MATLAB. The function of this program includes two aspects: structure optimization and electromagnetic design.
