The active grille shutter change the degree of opening of the grid to control the air flow into the engine compartment, and then adjust the temperature of the engine compartment and the air resistance to obtain higher fuel economy. It is currently a hot focus of automotive research and development.A kind of active grille shutter used in automotive is through basic theory of application of computational fluid dynamics and structural mechanics to research and analysis the distribution of velocity, pressure, ventilation rate of its surrounding flow field. The coupling of flow field and structure of the active grille shutter has been studied particularly. The main research contents and conclusions are as follows:The 3-D numerical simulation of flow field surrounding the active grille shutter used in automotive has been carried out. With the increase of the speed, the air flow around the grid will increase; but the velocity distribution of the flow field does not change with the speed changing; the pressure between the front and back of the grid increases with the increase of the speed; but the pressure distribution does not change with the speed changing. With the increase of the speed, the amount of ventilation will increase.With the change of the rotate of grille, the velocity distribution of the flow field changes, the effect area on the radiator is different with different blade rotation angle; the pressure between the front and back of the grid increases with the increase of the blade rotation angle; with the increase of the blade rotation angle, the amount of ventilation will decrease.Then, Use the pressure distribution of the numerical analysis of fluid, the structural strength analysis of the grille blades is carried out. The deformation of the blade will increase with the increase of the speed and blade rotation angle.Finally, the fluid-structure interaction of the active grille shutter has been studied. The coupling result of flow field and structure calculation between the single calculation results has been compared. The deformation of the blade has small differences with low speed; and has big differences when the speed over 100km/h.
