With the rapid development of China's economy, as well as the realistic requirement of reverse distribution between the energy resources and economic development of our country, high-voltage direct current transmission becomes an important means to realize the optimal allocation of resources across the country in recent years, with the advantage of low loss, low pollution, small area covered, not being limited by the voltage and frequency, safety and reality. At the same time, in the near meeting, the State Grid Company makes clear that, during this and next year all of the contractors should regard implementing requirement to the environment protection as the starting point, promote a comprehensive process of UHV scale construction, with UHV DC project upgrading to a national strategic engineering.Converter transformer is the key equipment of supporting the UHVDC transmission project. Compared with the conventional power transformer, each phaseof converter transformer still has one or two valve-side windings with full insulation for UHVDC, besides one line-side winding with UHV. The valve-side winding still should bear the DC voltage of superposition, besides the AC voltage impact of conventional AC power transformer.The insulation effect of AC voltage and DC voltage is completely different; therefore, it has a challenge for the converter transformer design and development.Based on that stated above, according to the characteristics of converter transformer products, at basic of the thorough investigation and reference for product structure of converter transformer existing, put forward the converter transformer's overall structure and the electromagnetic calculation scheme of ZZDFPZ-363400/500-400. Make models and analyze the key techniquessuch as major and minor insulation structure, the leakage magnetic field, stray loss and the temperature fieldusing relevant analysis softwareto ensure every performance of converter transformer to meet product requirements. After developing the converter transformer prototype, do the routine and type testing for the prototype. The test states that the transformer has a very good performance.
