In recent years, with the acceleration of urban industrialization, the number of vehi-cles in urban has been greatly increased, at the same time, the pressure of the urban traffic is surging. For traffic congestion, frequent accidents and poor transport efficiency, the concept of internet of vehicles comes out. IOV(Internet of Vehicle) has a dynamic net-work topology, Vehicles act as the nodes of the network and exchange their information carried by themselves. In this paper we have done some research in all areas of IOV. First, We discussed the current routing protocols which have been widely applied, and then we classified and researched those kinds of routing protocols. Then we summed up their pros and cons in certain scenarios. AODV,which is the most widely used routing protocol, will flood many route request packets(RREQ) to their neighborhood nodes. These route request packets will cause broadcast storm and network congestion which can make the end to end delay high, lower the ratio of packets delivered and the performance of the net-work will not be satisfied. In this paper we proposed an adaptive routing protocol based on multilevel sieving method to reduce the number of route request packets in the route discovery stage of AODV routing protocol. In this method, firstly we sieved nodes based on the stability between two nodes:we calculated the difference of velocity and decided which neighborhood nodes will be selected; Then we sieved nodes based on the density of the area the nodes:we adjusted the probability of flooding route request of each node. Besides, considering the high mobility of the nodes in the network, we have integrated the feature of DTN into the classic AODV routing protocols. When there is no available route to the destination node, we take the Custody Transfer mechanism to complete a reliable data packets transmission. We also did research on the mobility models and discussed in which the scenarios of these models worked, and then we abstracted the mathematical expression of these mobility model, we have discussed Krauss mobility particularly and enhanced it to make it more close the reality. In order to analysis and test the performance of our improved routing protocol,we combined a network simulator (NS-2) and a traffic simulator (SUMO), and built a coop-erative simulation platform; At the same time,in order to make simulation results close to the real environment,we chose a part of the real road network, applied Krauss model with vehicles. Because that the traffic flow meets the Poisson Distribution in the certain time point, we did Poisson process with the traffic flow. We did our simulation serval times, and the results proved E-AODV can work well, the number of the route request packets has been decreased. It can avoid the broadcast storm and enhance the performance of the network, D-AODV integrated with the feature of DTN can keep reliable link of end to end, it can improve the ratio of packets delivery and decrease the delay of the network.
