The single-phase fault is the most frequently occurred fault of the distribution system. It is urgent to diagnose the fault line of the system quickly and effectively. The grounding current of the small current system is with small magnitude and is influenced by the external disturbance and the change of the line parameters.Although much work has been done to the grounding current of the small current system, many problems have not been solved perfectly.Collecting the transient fault signals of the fault system is helpful to the realization of the system with the development of the computer and the electronic technology. The introduction to the small current of the distribution system is performed firstly in this paper. The focus of this paper is the analysis to the fault process of three different operation states, including the current, voltage, features of fault, and ect. Then, the fundamental principle of the fault line selection and its existing methods are introduced in detail. The simulation model of the small current system of the distribution system is built in the Matlab/Simulink based on the actual parameters. The simulation is done with the model. The analysis to the simulation results is performed. The influence of the different factors on the current of the fault line and non-fault line is summarized. The fault line selection method based on the wavelet analysis is proposed in this paper.Simulation under multi scenarios is performed. The fault data is set as the input of the proposed method.Calculation results verify the rightness and the effectiveness of the proposed method, which can be used as a guidance to the future work.
