Optical fiber lens as one of coupled devices has been widely applied in optical fiber communication fields.Processing the optical fiber end face into a special shape can improve the optical coupling efficiency of the optical fiber.The traditional optical fiber lens processing method can not meet the increasing demand of optical fiber lens and the diversification of optical fiber lens shape.With the development of micro-grinding technology,it has been applied to the processing of micro-devices of crystal materials and it has high efficiency and can obtain nanoscale surface roughness,so it can be applied to the production of optical fiber lens.The theoretical and experimental research on the micro-grinding technology of optical fiber lens has a certain theoretical and practical significance for the development and application of optical fiber lens and micro grinding technology.At first,the basic concepts of optical fiber lens and the development of manufacturing method of optical fiber lens was briefly introduced,the advantages and disadvantages of several methods were compared.Then,the micro-grinding technology was introduced and the development of micro-grinding technology was summarized.The feasibility and necessity of using the micro-grinding method to process optical fiber lens are summarized.Secondly,based on the research of micro-grinding force,the micro-grinding force model of optical fiber lens was established by introducing the effect of size effect and the number of dynamic abrasive grains.At the same time,Based on the knowledge of material mechanics,the mathematical model of optical fiber deformation during the micro-grinding process was established,which provides a theoretical basis for the micro-grinding of optical fiber lens.After that,the micro-grinding experimental study of 60 ° wedge-shaped optical fiber lens and 60 ° tapered optical fiber lens were carried.Combine with the optical fiber deformation model,the effects rules of micro-grinding parameters on the forming accuracy of wedge-shaped optical fiber lens including flatness,angle and offset and micro-grinding parameters on the forming precision of tapered optical fiber lens including straightness,angle and offset were summarized.According to the results and processing steps of micro-grinding wedge-shaped and tapered optical fiber lens,obtained wedge-shaped,tapered and oblique optical fiber lens with higher forming precision.The micro-grinding method was successfully used to process the end of optical fiber into cylinder-lens and sphere-lens.Finally,the main conclusions and problems in the process of the research were summarized,and some recommendations and prospects of the future research directions were put forward.
