The given paper was prepared in order to create design guidelines of contemplative space for modern cities.Contemplation was recognized as a method of reducing stress for society. In the first part of this work the definitions of contemplation and stress were explained to understand the base issues. Natural ways to reduce stress, which were selected, were based on further analysis of research publications in the field of environmental psychology. It is possible thanks to the influence of greenery on the individual. In the next section the most important aspects in history of shaping the contemplative space in selected countries in Europe and Asia were described. Subsequent step was research the public opinion about the places conducive to relaxation. In the survey, people were asked to rate presented, mostly urban, spaces. The photos were categorized according to several variables, so the results of the survey showed a preference of users. Described model of creating a space conducive to contemplation, that was used to design part of the work, is based on the results of the survey.In the following paper a few spaces in Wroclaw, which could be used to create an exemplary concept of contemplative space, was analyzed. It was helpful to select most appropriate place, which is the island Daliowa. In this area was created an example of the concept of contemplative space.
