The Research On Behavior Characteristics And Control Methods Of Pedestrians’ Mobile Phone Use Behavior While Crossing

With the popularity and the rich functions of mobile phones,they are now permeable to all areas of our daily life,then mobile phone addiction gradually evolved into a kind of common social phenomenon.Phubbing,caused by mobile phone,has spread in the field of transportation,especially the potential risks and casualties caused by pedestrian mobile phone use behavior are continuing to rise.Mobile phone distractions would interfere pedestrian crossing speed,visual perception,auditory perception and judgment,which finally affecting the pedestrian crossing safety.Therefore,the research on the effects of mobile phone distractions for pedestrian crossing safety and the analysis of the psychological factors of pedestrian mobile phone use behavior while crossing would further cause the attention of all circles of the society to the phubbing phenomenon.What’s more,it would have a certain guiding significance to reduce pedestrian accidents.This paper focuses on the research of pedestrian mobile phone use behavior while crossing.First of all,the mobile phone distraction tasks experiment while crossing in the real road traffic environment was designed,characteristics of pedestrian crossing behavior including the initiate crossing time,the frequency of traffic observation,the average crossing speed and the frequency of failure crossing were obtained through camera,the eye movement indexes such as pupil diameter,the percentage of fixation points,the percentage of fixation time,the average fixation time and the saccade frequency were measured by eye tracker,then the impacts of cell phone distractions and different mobile phone use ways on pedestrians crossing behaviors and eye movement indexes were explored by variance analysis,the effects of mobile phone distraction on pedestrian safety were demonstrated.Second,the scale of pedestrian mobile phone use behavior while crossing was designed on the bias of the theory of planned behavior,descriptive statistics,reliability and validity tests,correlation and difference analysis were applied to the 405 valid samples,then the structural equation model was used to explain and predict the pedestrian mobile phone use behavior while crossing,psychological factors affecting pedestrian mobile phone use behavior while crossing were mastered.In the end,the control measures were put forward from the three aspects of pedestrian traffic safety planning,pedestrian traffic safety education and pedestrian traffic safety management,combining with the safety impacts and psychological factors of pedestrian mobile phone use behavior while crossing,which would provide a new perspective to reduce the unsafe behavior effectively.
