With the development of industrialization and urbanization,more and more people crowded into the city,which brought great challenge to urban transportation.It was necessary to take the bus priority policy.As the characteristic of normal bus transit,it is difficult to compete with the car.It was necessary to raise the sharing of public transport by improving the quality of public transport services.And one of the most important part to improve the quality of public transport services was to realize the characteristic of passengers.Firstly,on the basis of summarizing the previous research on passenger travel characteristics and classification,this paper put forward a relatively systematic method of passenger classification.It malniy contained three parts:(1)determine the main groups of bus passengers;(2)classify passengers by their bus use intensity;(3)on the baisis of ealier classification,classify the passengers by their temporal consistence and spatial consistence.Secondly,this paper analyzed the data of transit system in Chengdu.Based on the data in Chengdu and the methods proposed,this paper analyzed the characteristics of passengers and took the classification.In the passengers' classification,this paper analyzed the overall travel characteristics of passengers with different card types and the adult passengers in weekdeys were chosen as the research subject.And then K-means cluster method was used to segment the adult passengers by the bus use intensity.And the adult passengers could be segmented into three parts——low frequency users,medium frequency users and high frequency users.And then this paper segmented the three part passengers by their spatial and temporal characteristic.Each part of passengers could be segmented into four groups by their spatial and temporal consistence.They were habitual time passenger,regular O-D passenger,routine OD&time passenger and irregular passenger.At last,this paper analyzed the characteristic of different group passengers.It mainly contains the time passengers travelled in bus and the spatial distribution of O-D.And then this paper referred to some suggestions about the types of bus fares and types of services basing fares of public transport and subway in many cities in the world.The main conclusions in this paper were as follows:(1)It was different in trip characteristics as the difference of socioeconomic attributes of passengers(the diffenence of passengers' card type).(2)There were significant difference in trip characteristic between low frequency users and medium or high frequency users.(3)The proportion of passengers with temporal consistence and spatial consistence would be higher with the frequency people used bus increasing.(4)With the frequency people used bus increasing,the proportion of routine OD&time passenger would be higher and of irregular passenger would be lower.And the proportion of regular O-D passengers were low in all passenger groups.
