In recent years, power industry at home is developing rapidly, and the transmission network is gradually constructed by UHV and EHV technology.Power loss is unavoidable during the long-distance power transmission.Because of the environmental problem emerges increasingly in nowadays, how to not affect the normal power transmission and reduce transmission line loss, greenhouse gas emissions during power generation and the cost of power transmission, has become a popular topic in power industry. As the carrier of transmission lines realizing transmission function, wires produce transmission losses while transporting electrical energy. These transmission losses are produced in each transmission link on different voltage grades. Therefore, how to decrease the transmission losses of wires is worth the great concern of the whole power industry in same transmission capacity situation. The wire selection is an important subject in high voltage transmission,There are so many deficiencies in traditional one-time investment as the main factor in economical evaluation of power transmission. However, those problems could be solved by contrasting and analyzing the electrical characteristics and mechanical characteristics of different energy-saving conductors in transmission line design. In this paper, the conductor structures, parameters, energy efficient, electrical characteristics and mechanical characteristics of aluminum cable steel reinforced with high conductivity(duralumin with 63%IACS)(ACSHC),aluminum-twisted cable with aluminum alloy core and high conductivity(duralumin with 62.5%IACS)(LHA1),moderate intensity aluminum-alloy conductor(heat-treatment style)(MIAAC),aluminum molding stranded conductor with steel core(soft aluminum with 63%IACS)(AMSCSC)and carbon fiber reinforced composite core conductor(ACCC)were analyzed and compared.Based on the above analysis and comparison steps, two wire selection examples of 110 kV transmission line projects were analyzed.in term of electrical characteristics, mechanical characteristics, and construction to compare the application situations of the above five energy-saving conductors.Based on the analysis results of the two wire selection examples, the optimal conductor selection scheme which also is the most economical conductor selection scheme was determined on the premise that the power supply meets the demand of users with safe and reliable system runningThrough the research of the whole transmission line engineering design, the application value of energy saving wire in transmission engineering is proved. It is also provides a reference for the application of the whole life cycle theory and life cycle cost management for transmission design.
