With the development of the society and the improvement of the people life and their aesthetic,the increasing number of paper materials have been used in interior decoration.The research about the flame property of paper material is becoming more and more important because the flammable defects of paper materials which easily cause major fire potential.In the recent years,the serious problems of the abuse of halogenated flame retardants have been increased,and that situation result the increasing studies about looking for alternatives of halogenated flame retardants.The main objective of the this research was to find suitable substitutions for brominated flame retardants on paper making.The research focuses on the application of P-Al gel,aluminum hydroxide,magnesium hydroxide and boric acid as inorganic flame retardant,and treated the paper samples by surface coating method and adding fire-retardants into pulp method and mixing modification methods.In the first research,the effect of P-Al gel surface coated on paper samples showed that the best technological conditions:reaction temperature is 90 ?,reaction time is 2h,and the ratio of weight is 3:2.At that situation,the limit oxygen index(LOI)and char length of sample was 52%and 19mm respectively.The P-Al gel can stay on the paper effectively,and improve the flame retardant property of paper.In the second method research,the flame retardant paper which were made by adding fire-retardants into pulp method,were optimized by Response surface methods(RSM).The result showed that the incidence of three components composite inorganic fire retardant,including aluminium hydroxide(A),magnesium hydroxide(B),boric acid(C),is A>B>C.The optimum reaction condition(aluminium hydroxide:magnesium hydroxide:boric acid=50%:50%:30%)could lead to the highest degree of LOI value of fire-retardant paper.And the final LOI of the optimized sample was 32%.In the last research,the paper samples which were made by adding fire-retardants into pulp method,would be coated by P-Al gel before drying.The result of this composite pattern experiment showed that the inorganic flame retardant can through the cell wall's pits into the cell lumen,and stay on the surface of fiber because of physical absorption.The mechanism of boric acid is mainly condensed phase,while aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide obey the reaction principle of gas phase,the synergy of the two flame retardant reaction principles effectively offset and delay the degradation of cellulose and hemicelluloses.In addition,the addition of these inorganic flame retardants had some negative effects in thermo stabilization.But they can significantly improve the carbon residue rate of samples,that means the flame retardant of paper samples were optimized and reached the level of non-flammable material.All types of flame retardant samples exhibited high char formation and limiting oxygen index(LOI)values,indicating good flame retardancy.In particular,the synthesize samples exhibited the best flame retardancy behavior and the highest LOI value.The LOI of the fibers were significantly increased by P-Al gel.Compared to unmodified paper,the treated samples showed the great flame retardant properties.
