The thermal battery single cell consists of cathode?electrolyte and anode.Study and development of better cathode materials is the effective way and key to improve thermal battery because of cathode material is one of the important factors that decide thermal battery performance.The electronic conductivity of copper vanadate cathode material is low,so we dope this material to improve its discharge performance.In this article Mo doped Cu3V2O8 cathode material was synthsized by sol-gel and precipitation methods,and Mo doped Cu5V2O10 cathode material was synthsized by sol-gel method.their structure and morphology were characterized by X-ray diffraction?XRD?,scanning electron microscopy?SEM?and differential thermal analysis?DTA?.The single cell was prepared by powder press process and was used to explore the effect of different synthesis conditions on the discharge performance of the synthesized material.The results show that Mo doped Cu3V2O8 cathode material by sol-gel method has optimum discharge performancewith a doping ratio of 0.15 Mo undera calcine temperature of 700 ?and a calcine time of 10 hours,its initial discharge voltage is 2.8885 V,the single cell discharge capacity achieves 225.2mAh·g-1 at a cutoff voltage of 2.0V.The addition of compatible electrolyte and conducingt agent to the cathode material will improve its discharge performance,with the suitable additive amount 35% and 10% respectively.Mo doped Cu3V2O8 cathode material synthesized by precipitation method has optimum discharge performance with a doping ratio of 0.15 Mo,under precipitation condition of a pH of 7,a calcine temperature of 700 and a calcine time of 10 hou? rs andits initial discharge voltage is 2.75 V,the single cell discharge capacity achieves 210mAh·g-1 at a cutoff voltage of 2.0V,with the suitable additive amount 25% and 10% respectively.Mo doped Cu5V2O10 cathode material has optimum discharge performance,synthesized by sol-gel method witha doping ratio of 0.15 Mo,a calcine temperature of 750 and a ?calcine timeof 10 hours,it's the initial discharge voltage is 2.8423 V,the single cell discharge capacityachieves 229.5mAh·g-1 with a cutoff voltage of 2.0V,with the suitable additive amount 25% and 10% respectively.The doping amount of Mo should be suitable,too high or low is not conducive to discharge;the calcine temperature has great influence on discharge performance of the cathode materials and react completely at higher temperature;calcine time have little influence on discharge performance of material.It can be concluded that cathode material by sol-gel method has better discharge perfoemance.
