With the expanding of the city,urban rail transit extends to the edge and extension area of city.Those areas are sparsely populated,but residents are scattered.Most of the residents are far from the rail transit station.In the low demand areas,there is no conventional feeder bus,and residents travel is very inconvenient.So,it is important to find a suitable connection mode for the urban rail transit in low demand areas to improve the convenience for residents.Based on the advanced experience of forei gn countries,this pap er will regard De mand Response Transit as the key to solve the connection problem in the low dem and areas,and Demand Responsive Connector System will be design.It will provide a theoretical support for the practical application of Demand Responsive Transit in China.On the basis of summarizing the current l iteratures,Demand Responsive Connector is clearly defined.It is com pared with conven tional bus and taxi and its characteristics are summerized.This paper analyzes the com position and func tion of the De mand Response Connection System.The operationa l process is determ ined,the rules are refined,and the framework of De mand Response Connector System is set up.Based on the qualitative analysis of the Dem and Response Connection System,the regional characteristic is determined.With the understanding of resident s' trip and intentions,the radius of the connection area is designed by agglomeration effect,and the width of the connection area is designed by a m athematical derivation model.Then,th e service area is eva luated for suitability.In the servic e area,the passenger demand is di vided into static dem and and dynamic demand.The minimum waiting time and the lowest operating cost are taken as the optimization targets.Two-stage scheduling models and their algorithm are designed.The surrounding area of C hechang station(m etro Line 4 in Changchun)is selected as the research object.A survey of usage inten tion questionnaire was ta ken,and the result was analyzed.Then,the radius and width of the service area were determined.The demand of the reservation of this region was sim ulated,and the dispatching model was used to so lve the vehicle departure interval,the vehicle type and the driving route.The feasibility and validity of the model was verified.The research can effectively solve the prob lems of residents' trip in the low demand areas,and provides reference for the planni ng and scheduling of the De mand Response Connection System.It plays an exemplary role in the practical app lication of the Dem and Response Connection System in China.
