Conceptual design of pressurized water reactors IP200 (Integral PWR 200) is made by the Harbin Engineering University. The more detailed study on core thermo-hydraulics, steam generators,and other field has been done. While the design of the reactor physics just done two-dimensional calculations, and the mechanisms of the control rod design was irrationality.So the improved designed for the design and construction of small reactors is needed.Firstly, the HELIOS-1.11, developed form Studvisk by current interface coupled two-dimensional collision probability method burnup calculation code, was used in this paper for study the physical properties of the assemblies. And the fuel assembly which meets the design requirements is selected. And then the physical characteristics of control assemblies and burnable poison assemblies were studied, to obtain the fuel assemblies types fitting the reactor design requirements.Secondly, the single-channel thermal model for rectangular narrow channel was programmed, and then the preliminary core is designed. For the purpose of three dimensional diffusion calculations, continuous cross-sectional parameters are required. A new method of fitting cross-sectional from HELIOS code was proposed for high burnup reactor calculation.A substantial increase in the cross-sectional fitting accuracy is obtained. For the aim of suit hexagonal assemblies’ reactor of the quasi-steady calculation, REMARK code was adapted.The adaptation code reliability is proved by compare the results with mature design code CITATION. For the objective that the physical model can obtain a more realistic situation of temperature and density, the thermal and the physical model was coupled. The code of core physics design is accomplished.Finally, by using the code, different control rods arrangement of the core and elevate rods ways was compared, and then a superior arrangement and way is acquired. The final core design is obtained by comparing the characteristics of different burnable poison’s arrangements. The results of calculation about physical and thermal steady-state properties show that the design is reliable. The design of IP200 provides a theoretical and physical reference for integral pressurized water reactor.
