With the rapid development of photovoltaic energy, it has become one of the most important clean energy. As the main form of photovoltaic energy utilization,the output characteristics of photovoltaic array were most influenced by its parameters and the change of the external environment. It is not convenient to use the PV array directly in the engineering practice and scientific research. Therefore, a digital photovoltaic array simulator was designed which can simulate the output characteristics of different photovoltaic array under different illumination and temperature, so that people can use it in the field of engineering and laboratory research.First, by introducing the development overview of energy and the development background, current situation and development trend of the photovoltaic array simulator, it clarified the value and significance of the study. Thesis analysised the working principle of photovoltaic cells and introduced the classification of photovoltaic cells in detail. Then it established a equivalent circuit diagram, derived the expression of the output characteristics and drew the ideal Ⅰ-Ⅴ and P-V characteristics output curve of photovoltaic cells. By using the algorithm of automatic segment polynomial to fit the output characteristic curve, the shortcomings of the traditional algorithm was improved.The main circuit of the photovoltaic array was analyzed and designed. Then thesis made model selection of power electronic components which used in the main circuit topology. After that, the peripheral circuit of the main control system ,the signal detection circuit and the drive circuit were designed. By using the Kingview software, the man-machine interface was designed which can not only easily change the parameters of the photovoltaic array and the external environment condition, but also can display the output voltage, current and power of the state. At last, a real-time curve and history curve were added to analysis the work state of the photovoltaic array easily.Finally, thesis validated the mathematical model of photovoltaic array by using MATLAB. The hardware circuit was designed in SIMULINK to simulate the hardware circuit and a prototype machine was developed to test. The simulation results and the experimental results were correspond with the design expectations,which proved that the digital photovoltaic array simulator can simulate the photovoltaic array sucessfully.
