China established nuclear strategy of nuclear proliferation and closed cycle. The sodium-cooled fast reactor as the fourth reactor choice by many countries because of its security, fertility and high thermal efficiency. In the operation of the sodium-cooled fast reactor, the accident caused by the leakage and combustion of liquid sodium is common and frequent in sodium-related facilities. So for the basic research of sodium fire is very important.In this paper, the initial temperature of liquid sodium is 200-350 ? which used for sodium columnar fire experiment. In this experimental, liquid sodium was injected into a 7.9 m3 stainless steel cylindrical combustion space to shape sodium columnar fire by high pressure nitrogen. The experiment parameter recorded includes temperature of sodium,sodium flow rate,pressure, heat release rate, radius-length ratio of nozzle. These results show that the sodium fire in a columnar flow is composed of the foregoing centered columnar fire,subsequent spray fire caused by atomization and pool fire on the collection plate. The temperature close to the burning sodium flow maximally reaches up to 900-1200?,temperature of spray fire cause by strike atomization is about 700-900 ? ; The radialtemperatures apart from the sodium flow are relatively low and generally about 200?, and maximally just 300? even close to the sodium collection plate; The maximum temperature of the burning sodium dropping on the collection plate rises in the center of plate, about 520-610?. The burning time of columnar fire was very short with instantaneous high temperature and pressure shock, the pressure impact produced by combustion and the most high temperature of combustion almost appear in the same time; For the first time using ISO9705 calorimeter measured sodium fire heat release rate as high as 20.6kW, total heat release shows that sodium metal happens incomplete combustion.Finally, based on the analysis of the experimental data and the turbulent jet and jet combustion theory, the mathematical model of sodium columnar fire was established, and the calculation model with the experimental results was compared, in order to establish and perfect the sodium columnar fire model was attempted. These studies can provide technical support for the research, design and construction of China sodium-cooled fast reactor and operation of sodium loop related part, it also can provide technical reference for the fire protection system of sodium and protective measures of sodium fire accident.
