With the concept of low carbon and the implementation of the “bus priority development” strategy in China, bus plays an increasingly important role in China's economy development, city construction and social daily life, which directly influence the development of economy and the lives of residents. As the rapid development of bus transport industry, safety problem of bus traffic have attracted more and more public attention in terms of bus safety and quality of service. Therefore, research regarding on the problem of bus security is essential to scholars.Firstly,on the basis of literature reviews, this thesis summarizes two main factors including macroscopic factors and microscopic factors by conducting interview surveys with the management of the bus company and bus drivers, which influences operational safety of bus transportation factors.Macroscopic factor refers to the whole social environment, including two parts, public transport management environment and public transport vehicles operating environment.Microscopic factor refers to the internal factors of public transport system including roads, vehicles and human factors. In terms of human factors, compared with pedestrians and passengers, the bus drivers play a crucial role in bus traffic accidents. Therefore, from the perspective of related bus drivers' factors, this thesis analyzes the relationship between the bus driver and bus traffic accidents.Secondly, according to the actual operating conditions in a city bus company, this thesis collects and analyzes data of bus accidents and bus drivers' information, using the complete process of ETL,which is designed to extract useful information and inherent relationship behind the collected data. Moreover,in order to explore the factors influencing bus driver's traffic accidents. On the basis of analysis of the variables, the initial part of the study verifies parts of hypotheses,by using chi-square test, other proposed researches hypotheses are verified. Finally, this thesis draws the following conclusions: the linear relationship between bus drivers' gender and the bus accident rate is not statistically significant. However, the bus drivers' age, driving experience and education level have an impact on bus traffic accident rate.Compared to those whose education lever is primary, lower secondary or upper secondary, bus drivers who holds high degree have the lower bus traffic accident rate.In addition, these results are critical in the recruitment of bus drivers for bus company managers, meanwhile,it has a positive meaning on guaranteeing bus operating safety and reducing bus traffic accidents. In brief, the results of this thesis indicate a certain theoretical and practical significance to improve the safety operation of bus transportation. The outcomes reported serve as another warning to bus operators must pay careful attention to these three factors if they want to reduce or minimize the number of bus related traffic accidents in a metropolitan city.Obviously, the results of this thesis provides a certain theoretical basis for those persons involved with the operations of the public bus industry, particularly those companies that are operating bus routes in a major metropolis.Executives, managers, and supervisors in the bus industry will find the results highly useful for making hiring and firing decisions.Human resources personnel will find the outcomes important when evaluating prospective drivers for hire as well as for merit.City Planning Sector leaders will find the outcomes reported here to be important for establishing standards, policies, codes and other guidelines for industries in the public transit sector. As always, this research should be of interest to researchers and scholars who are doing research in the transportation services and the need for the identification of safe best practices.
