China is a country with rich water resources, and water power is a clean and regenerated energy, water power is an important condition realizing sustainable development strategy. After 10 years greatly development of our country, resources from a large number of rivers have been developed, and many big power stations are built. Water resources have been greatly developed except Tibet by now, other rivers are basically lack of resources to build big power stations, but still upon many small power stations could be built. Small power stations in the past basically used former water power plans, these plans were often times old, which led to the unrealized effects of water power parameters. But cost budget problem was considered while designing small power stations, and doing model test for developing turbines like big power stations was not possible, therefore a midway solution was needed to build small working units.Small sized Francis units were introduced in the essay, a newly developed large sized unit was used in the selection, then by a series of design methods applied on small sized units. At first, according to power station parameters, proper big sized units model was selected, and analyzed the problems about big sized units on small sized units structurally, then came up with solutions to solve the problems. In order to predict the performance of turbine precisely,internationally advanced value calculation software ANSYS CFX was used to emulate the moving values of modified turbine model prototype. Geometrical shape of the entire turbine used Unigraphics NX 7.5 software platform for its completion, all flown parts used ANSYS ICEM-CFD software for high precision hexahedral classification, lastly used ANSYS CFX for the flow analysis calculation of all flown tunnels of turbine, to determine if modified plan worked out.At last, main parts of unit analytical calculation was done through finite element analysis.Analysis includes rated working conditions, maximum output and runaway working condition,at the same time, the vibration modes of the runner were also calculated in details.
