Tilting pad journal bearing is widely used in large water turbogenerators, compressor,turbine and other rotating machinery due to more stable operation, low power consumption,automatic regulation, and its performance directly affects the operation status of the entire equipment. With the development of high speed, heavy load and high precision of modern rotating machinery, the higher performance requirements have been put forward for the tilting pad journal bearing. Therefore, it is important to study the lubrication characteristics of the tilting pad journal bearing. The main contents are as follows:1. Based on the hydrodynamic lubrication theory, the Reynolds equation of the tilting pad journal bearing with incompressible stationary is obtained. The Reynolds equation is solved by the finite difference method. Then the 3D pressure and film thickness distribution can be obtained under the Reynolds boundary conditions.2. A lubrication model of the tilting pad journal bearing considering the pad-pivot friction is established, and the static and dynamic performances of bearing are analyzed, then the lubrication performances of the bearing are analyzed and contrasted with and without consideration of the pad-pivot friction.3. Based on the 3D finite element method, a mathematical model of pad elastic deformation of tilting pad journal is established. By coupling the finite element method solving elastic deformation of bearing pad with the finite difference method solving the oil film pressure, the oil film pressure, oil film thickness, friction power loss are calculated by taking the pad-pivot friction and bearing pad elastic deformation into consideration. Then the effect of pad elastic deformation on lubrication characteristics of tilting pad journal bearing is analyzed.4. The oil film temperature field, bearing pad temperature field, oil film pressure distribution of tilting pad journal bearing are investigated by solving oil film temperature field equation, pad heat conduction equation, temperature-viscosity equation and generalized Reynolds equation simultaneously by considering the pad-pivot friction. The effect of thermohydrodynamic effect on characteristics of tilting pad journal bearing is also analyzed.The research of this dissertation can provide the theoretical basis for the design of tilting pad journal bearing.
