Though thermoacoustic has been observed and studied for over two centuries,its maturation in theory and practicability in application were most developed in the past 50 years.Development of the devices which are based on thermoacoustic effects is still stay inside laboratories.The practical application and popularization of these devices actually depend much on the development of the relative theories and technologies.The main job shown in this paper is as follow: design and manufacture a thermoacoustic Stirling engine prototype from the perspective of both basic theory and mechanical design principles,include the design and manufacture of all the main parts,detailed arguments about the problems on assembling,technology,and the installation of the sensors.Finish the preliminary experiments on the thermoacoustic Stirling engine,give reasonable analysis on the problem we meet based on the experiments from the perspective of theory and technology.Complete a further experiment on a standing-wave thermoacoustic refrigerator,strongly validate that the symmetric-structure refrigerator within double stacks has better refrigeration efficiency.The beginning of this paper is a summarize about thermoacoustic:a brief introduction of thermoacoustic phenomena,development of its theories,classification of its devices and several applications.The following is a part about the general thermoacoustic theories: Rott‘s linear theory based on some assumptions of approximation,several acoustic fluxes which should be care about in design for their negative influence.The third part is the detail design of the thermoacoustic engine and its manufactural technologies.The last part is the experiments on a traveling wave thermoacoustic engine and a standing wave thermoacoustic refrigerator.
