Batter pile have been increasing widely used in practice such as large transmission tower foundations,bridges,docks,offshore drilling platform in recent years for its superior axial compressive capacity ? uplift capacity as well as horizontal bearing capacity.There are complicated interactive compression and mutual shearing for the horizontally loaded batter pile,the pile head not only produces horizontal displacement,but also generates vertical displacement,in addition,the cross section of pile shaft exists not only bending moment and shear force but also axial force,which makes its bearing behavior much more complicated.Now,there isn't a deeper recognize for the working behavior of horizontally loaded single batter pile,consequently,studying on horizontal bearing behavior of batter pile is essential for practical engineering construction.In this study,firstly,a series of model tests in sand was conducted to explore the bearing behavior and load transfer behavior of single batter pile under horizontal load,the effects of Inclined angle and Pile length to shaft diameter ratio(L/D)on the lateral response of batter pile were analysed.The results show that the horizontal bearing capacity of vertical pile is inferior to that of positive batter pile while superior to that of negative batter pile,what is more,the lager inclined angle,the more obvious effects;the biggest bending moment of positive batter pile?vertical pile and negative batter pile is increasing in turn,The maximum bending moment of pile decrease with the increasing of the ratio of L/D;The maximum axial force of positive batter pile doesn't appear at pile head but a position near pile head,negative batter pile head is subjected to compression at the beginning,axial force of negative batter pile falls to zero sharply firstly,then increases reversely and finally trends to zero with depth;segments close to pile head generate negative skin friction while segments below pile generate positive skin friction no matter what positive batter pile or negative batter pile.Then,the effects of Inclined angle and vertical load applied on the pile head as well as constrains on pile head on the bearing behavior of single batter pile were analysed by means of numerical analysis.It was showed by numerical calculation that applying of uplift load on the pile head is favorable to the horizontal bearing capacity of positive batter pile while adverse to that of negative batter pile;applying of compression load on the pile head is adverse to the horizontal bearing capacity of positive batter pile while favorable to that of negative batter pile;Horizontal displacement could be reduced efficiently with the introduction of pile cap compared to the batter pile free on head;The vertical load acting on pile head has different impact on bending moment and shear force of positive batter pile & negative batter pile.
