With its superior environmental performance?intimate character and rustic aesthetic orientation, wooden building set off boom of construction all over the world. However, China is short of forest resources, thus the construction industry heavily depends on import of timber, worse still, there exist a lot of waste wood cannot be fully recycled and reused, which greatly limits the development of Chinese wooden buildings. Therefore, based on this background, using "3R" concept as material saving clue, the article expands study of optimizing approach to of wood buildings."3R" concept——respectively refers to "Reduce", "Reuse" and "Recycle". According to this concept, the article thinks up with several approaches to architecture design and construction, thus saving the material. "Reduce" —— the first level of material saving optimization,means reduction. Under this principle, the author comes up with corresponding method, such as light volume ?miniaturization?simplicity of architectural form and so on. And in accordance with the above principles, specific selection of structure?functional space and simplify of components have been put forward. In addition,the article proposes construction measures of wood building, including industrialized assembly, precise node configuration, as well as digital construction. "Reuse" means reuse of wood construction and materials at all levels. From this aspect "Recycle" means recycle the used wood components?structure or material through building deconstruction. Similarly, it proposes corresponding architectural design and construction methods, together with a simulated case to verify the approach above.The major innovation achievement of this article is combining the 3R theory of circular economics with architectural material saving, and come up with corresponding strategies on key node of full life cycle, to reduce the quantity of wood used during architecture design?construction and demolition, recycling and reusing the waste wood at the same time, to realize the target of low cost?low pollution and low emission, in this way,we can inherit our sustainable development, thus making contribution to our society?environment and economy.
