In the current era,the shipping industry plays an increasingly important supporting role in the global economic development. But at the same time, maritime accidents are increasing as well,in which the tanker grounding will not only lead to damage for the hull structure, but also cause oil leakage and even shipwreck caused by lack of residual strength. Therefore, both from the safety, economic or environmental aspects, research residual strength after the strand is of great significance. At present, the study of ship stranding is mainly carried out by numerical analysis. In the past, almost all grounding research were based on the assumption for ship damage model. In this paper,ANSYS / LS-DYNA is used to simulate many conditions in detail and verify the typical damage of the ship's remaining strength. The main research contents are as follows:Summarizes the status quo of stranding research worldwide, and evaluates several evaluation indexes of tanker residual strength.Use the nonlinear finite element method to simulate the oil tanker stranding.Additional water quality method was selected to consider the effect of water, and the equivalent hull beam method was used to simplify the model.Hull material is simulated by plastic dynamic model, and the effect of strain rate is taken into account. The reef is modeled using rigid bodies.Parameters such as ship speed, trim angle, draft, the size and shape of the rock are defined and get 240 different conditions.Under these different stranding parameters, the damaged area in the bottom, including the broken width, height, length structure can be obtained by LS-DYNA.Then can get the most probable damage situation from the results to evaluate the ship grounding damage assumptions from ABS,DNV and CCS.Finally, compute the float status, load and residual strength according to the typical damaged area.Besides, several general conclusions can be summed up by all these studies.
