Gel,as a new kind of promising propellant, expecting to combine the priorities of both solid and liquid fuel.It can be stored like solid propellant and can also flow like liquid propellant. There is no doubt that gel will be widely uese in the future. The semisolid characteristics is realized by adding gellant into liquid fuel, then milled evedly at a relative high temperature, however, the fluidity decrease due to the exist of gellant.Besides, gel can be considered as a double phase or mutiphase fuel, which has a significant differences in combustion and evaporation characteristics from the liquid fuel, which is always considered as a simplex fuel.In this article, the kerosene gel and kerosene gel with nano-boron particles are produced by ourself. With the help of high-speed digital camera coupled with a magnification microscope lens, the combustion process of single gel droplet are studied experimentally. Some special phenonmenons were observed, such as the bubbles occurred, the gellant layer existed and microexplosion happened.By altering the mass percentage of gellant and boron particles,we studied the influences of gellant and boron particles on the combustion process of kerosene gel droplet with boron particles. At last,we conclude the combustion characteristics of single gel droplet. Then Xe-lamp ignition system was designed to study the evaporation process of single gel droplet under different temperatures. The Xe-lamp will emit concecutive spectrum at working condition, while the kerosene vapor will generate Laman dispersion at some special spectrum.Based on this character, the process of gellant layer generating and microexplosion happened can be observed clearly. Finally, the combustion process of single ethanol droplet and alcohol droplet was investigated.By altering the size of the droplet,we studied the mechanism of microexplosion.
