The underwater glider is a new type of underwater vehicle,having many advantages,such as long range,low cost and high endurance and the research and development of the underwater glider is still at the forefront of international marine technology.Despite the advantages mentioned above,some theoretical problems around the underwater glider should also be given the due attention.First of all,the battery block cannot be built big enough,thus the gliding range and endurance of AUG is inevitably limited.Apart from that,considering that the speed of ocean current experienced by the underwater vehicle may be larger than its gliding speed,the AUG may deviate from its initial gliding route.In view of this,the new conceptual design of high efficiency gliding and bionic propulsion has been adopted into the traditional design of underwater glider.Main works of this paper are as follows:The research on efficiency gliding of the underwater glider has been conducted.In this part,an optimized outlook of AUG has been proposed on the basis of the detailed analysis of existing typical underwater gliders' hydrodynamic performance.Then,a new evaluation standard has been put forward to give an accurate evaluation on AUG's hydrodynamic performance and a conceptual design of rotatable hydrofoil has been proposed,hoping that the hydrofoil may adopt different angle between the fuselage under the different gliding attitudes thus improving the gliding efficiency.The study on bionic propulsion of underwater glider has been carried out.In this part,the new conceptual design of bionic propulsion has been utilized in the design of underwater glider.This chapter consists of two parts,namely,investigating the influence of hydrofoil's two kinds of motion,the flapping motion and traveling motion on the propulsive efficiency of AUG.The numerical simulation has been conducted on AUG's bionic propulsion by solving the incompressible vicious navier-stokes equation coupled with the immersed boundary method,investigating the influence of hydrofoil's motion parameters on propulsive performance.
