The transverse flux PM machine(TFPMM)has potential application foreground in the ship,electric vehicles and direct-drive wind power generation for the merits of low speed,large torque capability and high power density.A lot of research work has been done on TFPMM by domestic and foreign experts and scholars.They have obtained certain research results and proposed all kinds of novel TFPMM topologies.A novel flux-concentrating transverse flux PM machine with passive rotor was studied in this paper.Firstly,the basic structure,the operation principle and the mathematical model of the novel TFPMM is analyzed.At the same time,the particle swarm optimization is introduced into the optimal design of the transverse flux PM machine and the main dimension parameters of the machine are optimized.The novel transverse flux PM machine improves the utilization rate of the permanent magnet with the flux-concentrating structure.The serious magnetic flux leakage of the transverse flux PM machine makes phase winding inductance larger.The magnetic field distribution of TFPMM is studied by 3-D FEM analysis,and the influence of armature reaction on the machine is analyzed through the simulation.On this basis,the flux-linkage,voltage and self-inductance of the short-circuit phase and the normal phase are analyzed when different short-circuit faults happened.The steady short circuit current is obtained under different short-circuit faults.Then the magnetic leakage factors under no-load of two types of machines are computed using a 3D-finite element method.At the same time,the magnetic leakage factors of machines under no-load in terms of different structure parameters are studied and the results of variation trend of magnetic leakage factors are presented.The 3D simulation model of the machine is established based on the single-phase TFPMM and two-phase TFPMM respectively.Then the electromagnetic force of the rotor under various load conditions is obtained.The stress field is adopted to study the stress distribution and deformation of the rotor by imposing the electromagnetic force on it.The results indicate that the rotor of the prototype machine has sufficient mechanical strength and structural stiffness.The prototype of the TFPMM is developed on the basis of the simulation analysis,and the test rig is established.The no-load,on-load and short-circuit experiments of the prototype are verified,and the results consistent with the simulation.At the same time,amendments are put forward when the problems of the first round prototype are encountered in the course of processing and assembling.The processing technology and assembly difficulty is simplified,and the second round prototype is designed,completing verification experiment at the same time.
