Air transport system is an open complex system;only complexity science,a kind of research methods,can profoundly explain operating characteristics of the air traffic system.Air-route network is skeleton of the air transport system,carrying its main functions.Studying the complexity of air-route network helps to explore its operational characteristics and rules,which can be applied to optimize strategic air traffic flow management.This paper will explore the complexity of air-route network focusing on aspects of traffic flow and network structure to outline traffic management strategies for reducing complexity.Firstly,this paper starts with convergence of air routes,the crux of traffic congestion of network to build a way point model and prove fractal characteristics of congested traffic flow based on the Discrete Fourier Transform to characterize the complexity of traffic flow.We also analyze the relationship between fractal dimension and efficiency indicators such as delay and the flow volume ratio and clarify the correlation between fractal dimension and model parameters.Then,we construct topological models of air route network on the basis of measured traffic flow data to verify fluctuations in air traffic network and explore the characteristics of flow fluctuations on different observation scales and separate the internal and external factors of network flow fluctuation and finally propose a pretreatment method to optimize the time-space scope of flow management.Then,based on measured traffic flow data of central-southern China,we construct static and dynamic network topology models to analyze the statistical characteristics and dynamic changes of the air-route.We use information entropy to characterize the network complexity,verify self-organized criticality in air route network from both time and space and explore the relationship between self-organized criticality and information entropy.Finally,this paper summarizes the above research results and presents a conceptual model of flow management based on complexity.This paper also optimizes the network flow allocation model based on genetic algorithm to reduce the complexity of air route network.This study Covering waypoint system and the whole network,this study,from the local to the whole,explores the complexity of the air-route network system,re-examines the basis of network flow allocation,and provides theoretical basis and method support for the formulation of strategic flow management.
