With the increasing consumption level,Car as a major consumer product gradually into the family.since 2008,China's automobile production and sales for the 8 consecutive years are more than 20 million pcs,Ranked first in the world,is worthy of the name of automobile power country.GMT is abbreviation name of Glass Mat Reinforced thermoplastics.Because of its outstanding toughness,short preparation process,high specific strength,recycling and other advantages,known as the "green industrial materials in twenty-first Century",has become the key to solve the problem of the automotive industry.This paper systematically studies the characteristics and properties and types of GMT materials,confirm some key technology and parameters in it's production process(such as glass fiber mixing degree,lass fiber length etc),expounds the application of GMT in automobile industry,verify the feasibility of using the GMT material in automobile engine cover production.Finally,from the perspective of the development of the automotive industry,finally the development of GMT are prospected.The research work of this paper mainly includes the following three aspects:(1)According to the national standard "oriented fiber reinforced plastic tensile test method" and " Test method for flexural properties of fiber reinforced plastics",to test and analysis the influence of glass fiber length,glass fiber content,hot pressing temperature on tensile strength,tensile modulus of GMT,flexural strength,flexural modulus,impact strength and other properties.To determine the mechanical properties of GMT parts of the automobile,Lay the foundation for the further study of the GMT technology which will be used in the decorative cover of automobile engine.(2)From the aspect of environmental safety,cost reducing and efficiency increasing,This paper analyzes the main reasons for the application of GMT materials in automotive industry,from the four auto system(such as automobile engine,automobile chassis,auto body,auto electrical equipment)dimension,classified description the GMT material application situation,and briefly explained the feasibility of some GMT parts(such as oil tank,engine cover,Anticollision beam etc.)replace steel in terms of performance.(3)Test and analysis the feasibility of engine decoration cover ‘s gating scheme,through mold flow analysis(simulation)way to analysis the aspects of filling,packing,warping,volume shrinkage,determined the best filling time of products and maximum clamping force of mold and maximum injection pressure;to verify whether the engine decorative cover are qualified products Via vibration endurance test.The research of this paper provides a theoretical basis for the promotion of GMT materials for automobiles to the decorative cover of engine,which can be used as a reference for the development of automotive lightweight,and promote the transformation and upgrading of the automotive industry.
