Augmented reality head-up display(AR-HUD)is an optical see-through display that can potentially provide visual information, such as speed, navigation, the status of auxiliary system, the condition of surrounding environment, and others relative to the real world and accurately overlay the information on the road.Driving environment safety information is one of the most important contents of AR-HUD.AR-HUD can bring more intuitive and realistic road safety cues to enhance driver’s awareness of environmental.Because of the reducing of the conversion time, the pilot could focus more focused on the road information, therefore make it much safer in driving. The existing research of the security information interface has made positive explorations and made certain achievements in the display method of the cues of the targets obstacle, the cues of track path, and sign cues. However, there is a lack of in-depth study on the cognitive characteristics of the interface’s importance classification, color characteristics, and quantity characteristics.Firstly, this work used the questionnaire survey method to investigate the importance of the safety information in the experiential driver group, and study the importance of the different types of prompted information. Then put forward the importance classification principle of AR-HUD road safety information, that is,using the element size(large, small),brightness(high, low)and other visual variables to match the weight different of information.Secondly, this paper studies the impact of road safety information and cues hints of different color schemes on driver identification efficiency, cognitive load and emotional preference. The results show that the improved design interface is more efficient and does not increase the cognitive load of the subjects compared with the other two groups. At the same time, due to differences in the efficiency and warning of the interface of the different color schemes, the color design principle can be used to express the higher priority information.Thirdly, the critical value of the number of the prompted information of the different importance degree in the user reaction time and the critical value of the same importance degree in the user reaction time are studied respectively.By studying the combination of the different quantity and the weight, this research claimed that increasing quantity of the low weight information has little influence on the cognitive efficiency and cognitive load of the high weight information is small. In addition, the critical value of the number of the same weight information on the driver’s cognitive efficiency is three, the cognitive load is two. Finally, the paper summarizes the existing theoretical results and experimental research conclusions, and puts forward the design principles from the four aspects of road safety information interface layout, information type compatibility, color and quantity.Furthermore, according to the above principles, selects the typical driving situation to carry on the case design.
