With the rapid development of economic construction,the height of the retaining wall develops from a few meters to tens of meters from the initial,and the multi-level gravity retaining wall came into being at the historic moment.At present,there are many researches on the multi-level gravity retaining wall in the general soil area at home and abroad,but the introduction of the retaining wall in the special soil area is relatively less.Especially in the expansive soil area,the lack of the knowledge of the strength,earth pressure,deformation and stability leads to a certain blindness in the process of the multi-level retaining wall construction in the expansive soil area,resulting in unnecessary waste and some engineering quality hidden problems.In this paper,one multi-level gravity retaining wall engineering of Ankang City in Shaanxi Province is used as the research background.The stress and deformation characteristics of the retaining wall are analyzed through the numerical simulation.The reinforcement measures and the optimization design are put forward for retaining wall damage problems.The main researching contents of this paper are as follows:(1)This paper analyzes the instability mechanism of the retaining wall and summarizes the factors that affect the stability of the retaining wall.Then,the present research situation of the retaining wall is introduced.At the same time,size and distribution law of earth pressure of the retaining wall under different displacement modes are analyzed in detail from three aspects including the theoretical analysis,experimental research and numerical analysis.This provides a reference value for the further study on the mechanism of stability of the retaining wall.(2)The structural characteristics and the basic characteristics of expansive soil are introduced in this paper.The main causes of the instability of expansive soil are water swelling and dry shrinkage.(3)The numerical simulation and research of the Multi-level gravity retaining wall in expansive soil area is carried out by using large-scale finite element analysis software-ABAQUS.Meanwhile,the variation law of earth pressure and displacement of the retaining wall is also summarized.We can judge the stability of retaining wall from this rule.(4)Based on the conclusion of the numerical simulation and research,combined with the existing domestic and foreign research results,this paper puts forward some suggestions and measures for the stability of retaining wall in the expansive soil area for future reference.
