The Wound-Field Doubly Salient Machine(WFDSM)can run for four quadrant.There are no windings in its rotor,which contributes to its simple structure and high reliability.The machine is suitable for operating in high speed situation.The Wound-Field Doubly Salient Machine only needs external control rectifier circuit while operating as a power generation.It has wide speed range working as a motor.In this article the development course and the research status of the doubly salient machine(DSM)are introduced firstly.Then the machine's simple ideal mathematical model is established.And we analyses its working principle of the power generation and electrical machine.Secondly,according to the technical indicators of this project,two different wound-field doubly salient machines with different number of the stator and rotor poles are designed.Modeling and simulation of the two machines are done by the finite element simulation software.Then the two motors' static parameters of excitation winding self-inductance,armature winding self-inductance and mutual inductance between the field and the armature are compared respectively.The two different doubly salient generations' characteristics are compared.This project focuses on analyzing the electrical operating characteristics of the WFDSM of the 12/8 structure,from three angles about the control strategy,the current limiting value and the excitation current.The torque,the phase current,the torque ripple,and the ratio of the torque to the current are analyzed in detail,which lay the solid foundation for the choice of the electric control mode of the WFDSM.The torque ripple will cause the vibration and noise of the electrical machine.The WFDSM is very noisy while running.The cogging torque and the reluctance torque are discussed to decrease the torque ripple of machine in this paper.According to the designed structure parameters in this article a prototype motor is made.Testing the electrical no-load working curve of prototype motor provided the WFDSM for the possibility of high-speed operation.
