Anti-slide pile is used to transfer landslide thrust to stable soil in deep through the interaction with soil around, and widely applied in slope engineering because of its advantages such as strong resistance, convenient construction, flexible position and so on.Although the construction techniques and design theories of anti-slide pile are constantly updated and developed, the failure characteristics of soil arching between piles are still difficult to be visually determined,so the problem of reasonable pile spacing has still not been solved satisfactorily. Therefore, the method of soil arch stress analysis combing with model test and numerical simulation is taken to continue the research of the effect of anti-slide pile on slope stability and the rational spacing, and the results are applied to practical engineering. The main work and conclusions are as follows:(1)The effect of anti-slide pile with different section size and side friction on slope stability is explored by indoor model test.Through comparative analysis of test results, the regularities of pile top displacement, slope displacement, pile bending moment and soil fracture on slope with the variation of load are summarized, besides, failure mode of the slope is determined and tell that the influence of pile section size on slope stability is more obvious.(2)The effect of pile section size and side friction on slope stability under different pile spacing and soil properties is studied by finite element method, which results show that the influence of pile side friction on slope stability is so marginal that can nearly be ignored compared with pile section size.(3)Based on the results of model test and numerical analysis, the form of soil arching used in the calculation of pile spacing is determined, and the element stresses of plane soil arch and three-dimensional soil arch are analysed respectively, then the most unfavorable position in soil arching between two adjacent anti-slide piles and the corresponding spacing are obtained by the inequality of variable Q.(4)Anti-slide piles of different length and section size are adopted to reinforce a man-made high and steep slope in the northeast of Bazhong, and the reasonable pile spacing is defined by iterative calculation according to two methods of plane and three-dimensional soil arch analysis.
