In recent years,extreme weather such as thunderstorms has been occurring with increasing frequency,attributed to the trend of global warming.In consequence,the power transmission line trip ratio caused by lightning fault is always high.However,the exiting unified lightning protection measures cannot accurately determine the type of lightning fault,and inevitably lead to high investment but low efficiency.Simultaneously,when judging the reasons of lightning faults,operation and maintenance personnel are used to rely on their own experience instead of scientific basis.Then,developing measures based on these judgments tend to be make little use,and often result in waste.Initially,this paper analyses several methods in application to lightning fault data acquisition.After that,it presents a new system to distinguish between various types of lightning faults by monitoring the UV ray from solar blind area during the process of insulator discharging,and researches both hardware and software realization method of the system.Moreover,aiming at testing feasibility of the system mentioned above,this paper makes research on the principle of gas discharge and ultraviolet detection technology.Wireless sensor networks used in this system transmit the UV image collected by monitoring terminals towards monitoring center server.Thereafter the UV image will be pretreated by graying and binarizing,and the process of image extraction will be based on Mathematical Morphology.At last,artificial neural networks will be used on image recognition,and the type of one certain lightning fault can be deduced after being compared with UV image features of diverse types of lightning faults.As elaborated in this paper,the lightning fault discrimination system designed for transmission and distribution lines realize information collection,processing and extraction of the UV image when lightning faults occur.Moreover,the technique of discriminant analysis is presented,and it provides sufficient data support for differentiated lightning protection.
