The damaged stability of vessels is one of the elements guaranteeing the safety of maritime shipping and protection of maritime environment. The existing damaged stability calculation requires a large amount of time, resulting in severe difficulties for officiers in manual calculation, which makes them even harder to come up with anti-sinking measures. With the container ship being the major subject for study, the author optimizes the deterministic calculation of damaged stability in static water. The research includes the following:(1)Based on the traditional deterministic calculation, the author introduces step coefficents into damaged stability calculation which optimizes the submerged height, realizing the improvement of calculation accuracy and a much easier calculation process. It reduces the efforts made in calculation, improves the calculation spped and gives a quicker access to the final water line and water inflow volume.(2)Regarding the impact of free surface in the cargo hold on stability, the author innovatively considers several cases of floating containers and their influences in stability.Given several different ranges of inclination, the author lists the free surface calculation of container ships and multipurpose ships in cases of empty cargo hold,half-loaded cargo hold and full-loaded cargo hold.(3)The author puts forward how to draw the curve of statical stability of containers floating in cargo hold and draws a typical curve of statical stability of damaged ships. The author take emperiment ships as an example to examine the calculation of damaged stability for empty cargo hold scenario and full-loaded cargo hold scenario.
