Ship is an important index to measure the shipbuilding industry,ocean development and national defense development.And it has far-reaching significance.Before the construction of the ship,detailed design will be carried out,which has an analytical investigation on the strength of the ship,structure design and every performance index.The hull is composed of large box girder structures,which are constituted of stiffened plate.The hull is under the distributed hull weight,cargo weight,buoyant force and wave force produced by vertical buckling load.The design load of the ship is greater than the load when structure is under the integrity state generally.However,during the using process of ship,it will encounter the severe sea condition,loading and unloading anomaly,excessive ballast and uncertain factors,and then,actual load will be larger than design load.Then the ship will reached the limit state,and the overall structure will be collapsed.In fact,in the past few decades,a large part of the sea disasters are related the limit load and ultimate strength of the ship.These disastersremind us the importance of the ship's ultimate strength.So,the research and development of the ultimate strength will stay for a long time by the practitioner and researcher over the world.Since the importance of ultimate strength,how to assess and research the ultimate strength in advance is very important.So far,the classification societies over the world,for example,China Classification Society(CCS),Det Norske Veritas(DNV),American Bureau ofShipping(ABS),etc.,are all have assessment method of the ultimate strength in their ship design specification.This paper will have a research on the ultimate strength of the ship.And have a brief analysis on the ultimate strength theory of the stiffened plate,hull grillage and hull girder.And the model experiment method,progressive collapse analysis,the nonlinear finite element method and the idealized structural unit method will also be analyzed.Use the software of C#to write programs,then calculate the ultimate strength by progressive collapse analysis and show the result by graphical manner intuitively.For the calculation of several classical models,compare the result by C#software and MSC/Patran finite element software,demonstrate the reliability of the result by C#,and then,compare the advantages and disadvantages of the two methods.The calculation by C#software based on progressive collapse analysis,solved the complicated calculation by finite element software(such as ANSYS,MSC/Patran,ABAQUE,etc.)in the past.And it can also display the result graphically,improve the computational efficiency of the hull strength.In the software,propose the advanced technology of multi-thread,multi-process and CUDA graphics card,use the modularization thinking of software engineering and distributed network,then bold attempt the "cloud computing".
