The requirements of electric power are huger and huger because of high speed urbanization.The power grid has become the most important part of our life and its safety and smarty became necessary.How to realize the health monitoring of the power grid and alarm types of the disasters in power grid is highly required.OPPC and OPGW are the transmission lines composited with optical fiber inside and provide an opportunity to utilize optical fiber sensing technology.This paper proposed to use the optical fiber in the transmission lines as distributed sensors integrated by ?-OTDR technology.The main research contents are included as followings:1)The strain transfer between the transmission lines and the optical fiber inside were simulated based on the finite element models.The forced oscillation,resonance oscillation and shock induced oscillation of the transmission lines were considered.2)An experimental system,including an ?-OTDR and an forced vibration setup for the transmission lines was built up to prove the idea of using embedded optical fiber to monitor the vibration of the OPPC/OPGW transmission lines.3)We measured the frequency response of the embedded fiber to the vibration of the transmission lines.The simulated ice-shedding experiments were done and monitored by our sensing system.
