A new heat transfer structures with multiple oval tube was proposed to be used as recuperator of the new generation aero engine.It is a kind of compact high temperature structures and widely applied in military,ship,aerospace and other industrial fields,which instead of the traditional plate-fin recuperator.So far,the design and use of the recuperator are basically developed by foreign airlines,and few investigations have been published in domestic.Based on the above issues,shell-side heat transfer and resistance performance of the oval tube recuperator has been numerically studied by using commercial software FLUENT.Major research work and conclusions are summarized as follows:Firstly,the periodic model of oval tube recuperator is established.Numerical investigation is conducted by commercial software FLUENT.The feasibility and accuracy of numerical model and method in this study is verified by compared with the test data in published reference.Secondly,taking the result from the whole model into account,the periodic model on shell-side of the oval tube recuperator is established.The effects of structural parameters and tube arrangement of oval tube on the shell-side heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop is analyzed.The comprehensive performance evaluation factor is proposed and recuperator with different parameter is evaluated as well.Thirdly,recuperator with flat oval tube structure is put forward on the basis of oval tube structure.The effects of structural parameters and tube arrangement of flat oval tubes on the shell-side heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop is analyzed.The comprehensive performance evaluation factor is proposed and the best comprehensive performance of flat oval tube recuperator is obtained.Finally,heat transfer enhancement mechanism of heat exchanger is studied in theoretically.
