As one of the clean energy,wind energy resource is featured with renewable and non-polluting characteristics which overcomes the shortage of traditional fossil energy and meet the needs of the World's sustainable development.However,wind energy resource has an unbalanced distribution and large volatility due to different factors such as the climate background and topography.In order to exploit and utilize global wind energy resource more rationally and serve for the Belt and Road initiative,it is particularly important to grasp the characteristics of its temporal and spatial distribution and its development potential.In this paper,the temporal and spatial distribution of global wind energy resource from 2000 to 2015 were analyzed by using the ERA-Interim,MODIS products and other spatial analysis data.The AHP and PCA methods were used to evaluate the development potential of global wind energy resource.The main work and results can be summarized as:(1)The reliability of the reanalysis data ERA-Interim was systematically verified and analyzed by using available data from global weather stations from 2000 to 2015.Experiments found that the wind speed,wind direction,temperature and pressure data provided by ERA-Interim can meet the needs of this study.(2)This paper made a detailed analysis of the temporal and spatial distribution of global wind energy resource and the environmental factors which affect its development potential.The indices of spatial distribution mainly include the average wind speed,wind power density,effective wind frequency and main wind direction frequency.The indices of temporal distribution mainly include the trend of wind power density between years and the coefficient of variation during the year.In terms of environmental impact factors,slope,land suitability,vegetation height and traffic distance were analyzed.(3)The evaluation index system of development potential of wind energy resource was constructed by resource richness,utilization value,stability,trend of resource,and natural economic factors.(4)This paper used AHP and PCA to evaluate the development potential of global wind energy resource separately and the reliability of the result was validated by the location of wind farms which have been built globally.The results showed 72.22% of the verification points fell into the medium-high and high potential areas based on the AHP analysis results,and only 15% of the verification points fell into medium-low and low potential areas.In addition,the PCA method has reached a consistent conclusion.(5)The wind energy resource evaluation and data management software was developed which based on GIS development platform,ArcSDE spatial database engine,C# and Matlab.The software integrates the module of indicator extraction,comprehensive evaluation,space assistance and database management,which can provide relevant help for the power sector in the medium and long-term planning and development of wind energy resource.
