Composite solid propellants are becoming increasingly used in the aeronautics and armament applications, the mechanical behavior at high strain rates are of increasing importance in these applications. This thesis investigates the compressive properties of two kind of solid propellants,hydroxy-terminated polybutadiene based solid propellants and CMDB propellants,to study this behavior, the low, intermediate, and high strain rate compression testing at room temperature were conducted, using a universal testing machine,a hydraulic testing machine, and a split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB),respectively.Following the available experimental investigation of HTPB solid propellant and CMDB solid propellants, two constitutive model for onedimensional finite-strain deformation of polymers,Maxwell generalized model and Mulliken-Boyce model, were proposed. Each of these models is a full three-dimensional model suitable for implementation in a finite element code, such as ABAQUS,in this study the models were adapted to one dimension and integrated in Matlab.Which are able to capture the compressive mechanical properties of composite solid propellants over a range of strain rates at room temperature.
