The efficiency and reliability of internal combustion engine are two significant research in internal combustion engine science,It’s has been focused by lots of researchers for a long time.The analysis of friction and motion state of cam mechanism correctly is helpful to improve the efficiency of valve train and its life,thus to improve the efficiency of engine and its reliability.In this paper,simulation method based on ANSYS Workbench was used to study on the dynamic charahteristics of cam mechanism of a diesel engine.Based on the simulation results,life expectancy of cam mechanism is predicted to provide the basis for making its maintenance period.The 3-D model of valve train was build first.The modal results of cam system were used to analysis the transient dynamics of cam mechanism.In this paper,it calculated thetransient dynamics of cam mechanism in ten working period under different working conditions,and analyze the motion and friction condition of cam mechanism for each working condition.The results show that the maximum stress of cam surface increased significantly and the fluctuation is gradually enhanced with the increase of speed.A certain degree of resonance will happen under low speed conditions,which may cause unstable contact condition and contact force.System under the medium speed working condition has a relatively stable condition,the friction and maximum stress overall trend is consistent.With the results of transient analysis,the life of cam had been calculated using the Designlife.The dynamic and life forecast calculation results of the cam surface tallies with the actual wear condition.It shows that the cam mechanism has a longer life under the medium speed working conditions.It prone to fatigue failure under high speed working conditions,and the resonance appears under low speed working conditions has a large influence on its life.This paper also studied the influence of different materials on the life of the cam.This provide a reasonable basis for the choice of cam material.
