Patent as a kind of public information documents, which including three aspects of technology, economic and legal aspects. Patents has being used in various fields. The patent mapping has not being used widely and effectively in China due to the late start. Patent mapping plays a significant role in grasping the core technology direction, analyzing life cycle of the industry and understanding the stage and trend of one area. China is in a low strategy stage and has weak awareness at the present. Although China has invested a huge of funds into technology, the income and gain are not satisfied. How to use patent mapping effectively is becoming particularly important.Since China’s "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" proposed, on one of the seven strategic emerging industries, bio-industry has also being paid a lot of attention. As a large agricultural country, increasing the research and funding. At the same time, biological fertilizer get an incredible development in bio-industry. The article use patents of biological fertilizer field as a view of research, using patent mapping as theory and framework, did a systematic and exhaustive analysis.The paper uses the methods of patent map and social network analysis in domestic and foreign patents for a comprehensive analysis, which included seven domestic and foreign countries (regions), with the consist of application situation analysis, IPC classification analysis, assignees analysis and inventor analysis, correlation analysis of IPC, co-cited analysis and clustering analysis. Identified the development trend of domestic and foreign bio-fertilizer patented technology, the core stage of the assignees and the core patented technologies. Founded the flaw of domestic patents and advantages and disadvantages in bio-fertilizers field, and the core patent in the area.
