To set the marsh of Poyang Lake in China as the research subject, much marsh soil from eight typical areas around Poyang Lake — Shangbian village in Yongxiu County(S), Xujialong in Xingzi County(X), Poyang Bridge of Hukou(P), Zhouxi in Duchang County(Z), Baishazhou in Poyang County(B), Longkou in Poyang County(L), Kangshan in Yugan County(K), and Nanji Mount in Xinjian County(N), has been collected. The marsh soil from the surface of the typical areas has been analyzed as well as the sulfur content in several formations from the soil of different depths, along with some other environmental factors, the pH value, the organic, and the oxidation-reduction potential. Also, the distributional discipline of sulfur element of different formations on Poyang Lake marsh areas is taken into further exploration together with the effects that the environmental factors have upon the sulfur in Poyang Lake marsh areas. Through the analysis of the distributional discipline of iron and manganese content in soil sample, the discussion about the relation of the sulfur content of different formations and the iron, manganese content in marsh areas is constructed for the reference of further researches on the sulfur element in Poyang Lake marsh areas. After the research, the results are presented as follow:1. The pH value of Poyang Lake marsh areas varies from 5.61 to 6.75 averaging 6.19. The average exceeds the average value of the whole Jiangxi province showing slight acidicness. Eh varies from 1.6 to 173.3 whose average is 110.36 while the organic content in proportion accounts for 7.32%-15.50%, whose average shows 12.39% which is high concerning the national level. The pH value increases as the depth of the soil increases and the Eh and the organic content shows the opposite.2. The total sulfur content of Poyang Lake marsh areas varies from 361.77mg/kg to 853.54mg/kg averaging 624.189mg/kg which is above the average value of the whole Jiangxi Province. The highest value is found in Xujialong in Xingzi County and Baishaozhou in Poyang County takes the lowest. According to the content, the content order goes as follow: X >K >Z >S >P >L >N >B. The effective sulfur content variation is 36.59mg/kg-133.30mg/kg, averaging 84.01mg/kg. The highest goes to Baishazhou in Poyang County, and the lowest Zhouxi in Duchang. The effective sulfur content of all the eight areas goes over 25mg/kg which means sulfur containing soil. The water soluble sulfur in soil and the absorptive sulfur are more affected by the depth while the total sulfur content less. The total sulfur content in soil and the organic content diminish as the depth increases and the water soluble sulfur and the absorptive sulfur are the opposite. And the eptitude of the sulfur content in Poyang Lake marsh soil grows as the depth increases.3. The distribution of the sulfur content in Poyang Lake marsh areas is related with many environmental factors. The total sulfur content in Poyang Lake marsh areas has a positive correlation with the organic content. The total sulfur content grows as the organic content increases. The effective sulfur content has a negative correlation with the oxidation-reduction potential. And the organic sulfur content has a positive correlation with the oxidation-reduction potential. There is no overt correlation between sulfur of different formations and the pH value of the soil but the whole value diminishes as the pH value goes up.4. The sulfur content in Poyang Lake marsh areas has certain couple relation with iron and manganese content. The absorptive sulfur content has a positive correlation with the active iron content as there is a variation about the active iron content in the marsh areas and 77.5% of its causes is the absorptive sulfur. The water soluble sulfur content has a positive correlation with active iron content as there is a variation about the active iron content and 8.1% of its causes is the water soluble sulfur. The absorptive sulfur has more effect on the iron content in the marsh areas than the water soluble sulfur. The total sulfur content has an overtly negative correlation with the manganese content. 11.04% of the factors causing the variation of the manganese content is the total sulfur content. The organic sulfur content has an overtly negative correlation with the manganese content. 4.18% of the factors causing the variation of the manganese content is the organic sulfur. The total sulfur has more effect on the manganese content in the marsh areas than the organic sulfur.
